In our last article we gave you a few pointers on ways to easily communicate your thoughts and points through web writing. This week, we'll be providing you with a couple more helpful tips for your writing process.

Let's first review the tips we discussed in our last blog post:

  • Be specific and to the point with your readers.

  • Always keep your reader in mind.

  • Try to keep it short and sweet.

This week's writing tips:

  • Examine other articles. Stop and think about some of the websites you have a tendency to frequent. Ask yourself what it is about them that you enjoy and why it is that you enjoy it. This can help to give you some insight on how to approach your writing, how to construct compelling sentences, introduce arguments and establish clear points of view.

  • Other tips and tricks:

    1. Stick to short, common words. You don't always need to sound formal, so remember that there isn't always a need for fancy words and phrases.

    2. Try to avoid words that aren't necessary. Such words are intensifiers like: very, really or extremely and are commonly used to make adjectives stronger. Remember, intensifiers aren't a necessity and sometimes it's best to just keep things as simple as possible.

    3. Steer clear of redundancies & phrase verbs. One of the easiest ways to clean up your writing is by staying away from phrases like "close proximity" instead of just saying "near" or saying "still pending" when just saying "pending" will suffice.

    4. Be careful of introductory phrases and or colloquialisms. Why say "due to the fact that" when you can just as easily say "because", or saying "at this point in time" instead of "now". Look for long phrases in your writing where copy can be easily changed out.

We hope these tips will help you in all of your future writing endeavors.
