Whether you are a content writer or a blogger on the web, it's vital that you understand the ins and outs of web writing. To help, here are a few general guidelines.

Writing Strategy

  • Be specific and to the point with your readers. Readers have reached your web page because they're looking for certain information. Make it clear to readers how they can achieve their goals by creating Calls to Action to help them get the job done. Readers don't want to have to jump through a series of hoops, so be sure to clearly state what needs to be done to achieve their goals.

  • Always keep your reader in mind. When you're writing your content, make sure that you are always keeping your readers' interests in mind. It's important to think of how you can write in a way that will serve your readers needs and answer their questions. You won't be able to really push your own agenda until you have served the agenda of your readers first.

    Identify your target audiences key interests and online behaviors to get a better idea of how you should be writing.

  • Try to keep it short and sweet. When you're writing do your best to keep it focused and concise. Sometimes this won't be easy to do, so evaluate your writing against this criteria:

    • Who's interested? - who will actually be impacted by what you are writing?

    • Is it captivating? - have you created web writing that is interesting, informative and important to your target audience?

    • Is it concise? - Is your writing clear and understandable? Does your point come across clearly?

    • Is it thorough and concise? - did you cover all of the important information of your subject? Were you able to make your point and was it straight forward?

    • Is it correct? - Is your grammar correct and are all of your facts correct?
