When it comes to selecting a restaurant, doctor, trainer, local car dealership, etc..., most consumers have a tendency to look to others for recommendations and validation before choosing to commit to their purchase or choice. This is exactly why it is very important to include customer references and testimonials as a big part of your online marketing.

Ask More Specific Questions. If you've ever asked a customer to provide a quote or testimonial for your business, it's likely that you've received ones that are very simple and general, like:
"Friendly and great service - would definitely recommend!"
Granted, a quote like this is better than nothing, however, it doesn't do much to provide a concrete reason for someone to choose you.
When asking a customer to leave you feedback, consider asking more leading questions that will generate more specific quotes that highlight what makes you stand out from other competitors and what the benefits are of choosing you. For example, if you own a beauty salon whose competitive edge is offering later evening hours, consider asking one of your late-night customers something like "What is it about our late-evening hours that you like?" Or maybe if you are a personal trainer you could ask "How has our training sessions boosted your energy levels?"
Video Testimonials. While written testimonials and quotes are great as powerful marketing tools, video testimonials are even more powerful.
If you run your business out of a location where customers can actually visit, think about asking your customers to answer a simple question about your business on video. As an incentive, you could offer your customer a small discount or perhaps a small free item. From there, you can post these videos on your website, Facebook, or any other site you can think would be beneficial to you.
In addition, you could even reward customers with additional discounts or free gifts for taking the time to actually create and post their own video testimonials in which you require them to tag their video with specific terms related to your business. You could even create some sort of video contest where the winner receives some sort of grand prize.
